Conservation of Timber With The Use Of Sprinklers

It is estimated that the volume of wood from trees blown over or uprooted in France by the storms of 1999 is 138 million m3, for an annual commercial harvest of 35 million m3. This excess can be explained by a difficulty in marketing accompanied by a fall in prices and even the impossibility of finding buyers who agree to take responsibility immediately, in large quantities, for this perishable raw material. In order to preserve these endangered assets, the conservation of some of the storm-damaged trees has been organised, this operation enabling the players concerned to mitigate the drop in prices and tackle the difficulties of supplying the industries over the months, or even years, following the storms.
