Information & resources for potential government shutdown

The anticipated upcoming federal government shutdown could impact the irrigation industry and your business. The Irrigation Association is proactively monitoring this situation and providing you with information to help with your planning.

Unless Congress reaches a short-term funding agreement by Saturday, the federal government will shut down beginning the morning of Oct. 1. The following are potential impacts a shutdown could have on your business:

  • Disruptions with some U.S. Department of Agriculture farm and conservation programs, notably marketing assistance loans, could cause delays in payments to producers and impact their cash flow and ability to make large purchases. Project approvals could also be delayed.
  • Companies that do business with the federal government could see delays in receiving payments and be unable to access government facilities to do the work.
  • While critical services such as border and airport security, air traffic control and government functions to protect life and property will continue, delays with these services could impact supply chains.
  • Many government websites could go offline beginning Oct. 1.
