Irrigation of the grapevine

 

In the face of the climate change and the natural presence of arid lands, particularly in the Mediterranean region, irrigating the grape vine is a farming technique that should be considered for certain vineyards. This article will present, in a limited manner, given the complexity of the subject, a brief description of the places where irrigation techniques are used in viticulture and the possible methods available for scheduling the irrigation of the vine. Water is one of the key factors in the development of the vine, its growth cycle and the composition of the fruit. If an excess of irrigation water is harmful to the quality of the grape-harvest, conversely, making the vine “suffer” often has an adverse effect on the quality.
