The Chinese irrigation market

 

The available water resources in China are estimated at 2,350 m3 per person, i.e. one quarter of the global average. It is divided unevenly between the arid lands of northern China, where there is only 700 m3 of the resource available per person, despite the presence of the Yellow River, and the humid southern region of China, which, beyond the Yangtse, has 3,400m3/inhabitant. This imbalance is all the more notable if we consider that the northern part of the country has 2/5ths of the population, 40% of the land under cultivation and 35% of the industrial production.
