WATER, A CHALLENGE FOR THE REGION AND THE WINE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE

 

With its 236,500 ha of grapevine and 18,200 vineyards (data from the 200 survey), the Languedoc Roussillon is the most important wine-making region in France. It has 30% of the country’s vineyards and produces 70% of IGP (Protected Geographical Status) wines in France. The wine industry plays a significant role in the regional economy and is a major source of employment: 32,300 people work in the vineyards of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
